Boyne Arts Center |Artist Info

Thank you for your interest in becoming an artist with Boyne Arts Center. We aim to support local artists, present high-quality work, and offer meaningful exhibition opportunities in our gallery and partner locations. Below are our current requirements and expectations for participating artists.

Eligibility

Boyne Arts Center welcomes applications from artists who live and/or primarily work within our local region.

Community Participation

As a nonprofit community arts center, we value artists who support the gallery by volunteering as docents or helping with activities. Volunteer hours are currently tied to the tiered commission structure. While participation is optional, it directly affects the commission split an artist selects.

Accepted Mediums

Artists working in oils, watercolors, acrylics, alcohol ink, pastels, sculpture, pottery, pen and ink, charcoal, fiber art, glass, photography, stone, wood, or colored pencil are eligible to apply. If you work in another medium or don’t see yours listed here, please reach out—we’re happy to discuss whether it’s a good fit for BAC’s exhibition spaces.

All submitted work must be original to the artist. While certain exhibition spaces may allow prints or reproductions, only the artist’s own work may be displayed or sold through BAC.

Where Artwork May Be Displayed

Accepted artists may be invited to display work in any of the following BAC locations or partner venues:

● Exhibition Gallery

● Gift Shop

● Holiday Art Show

● Local businesses and establishments where BAC curates rotating exhibits through existing partnerships

Some opportunities may include themes, size limitations, or additional guidelines. These will be clearly stated in each individual call, and locations are subject to change.

Presentation & Framing

All artwork must arrive ready for display. Two-dimensional work should be framed or presented on a clean, gallery-wrapped canvas or panel with finished edges. Pieces must be wired securely for hanging, preferably a third from the top; sawtooth hangers, D-rings, or kwik hangers are not accepted. Three-dimensional work should be clean, stable, and

exhibition-ready. If your medium has specific presentation standards or does not require framing, please ensure it is prepared in a professional, display-ready manner that aligns with any exhibition guidelines.

Display Fee

A display fee of $10 per month applies to all displaying artists.

Commission Rate

BAC uses a tiered commission structure based on the number of volunteer shifts an artist chooses to complete each year. Artists may select from three options:

● 60/40 split (60% to the artist, 40% to BAC) with no shift requirement

● 70/30 split with 12 volunteer shifts per calendar year

● 75/25 split with 24 volunteer shifts per calendar year.

The commission rate an artist selects applies to all of their sales across all BAC venues. A volunteer shift = 4 hours.

How to Apply

Once the jury has reviewed submissions, artists will receive notification by email with next steps for displaying artwork.

We appreciate your interest in being part of Boyne Arts Center and contributing to a vibrant creative community.

Jury Process

All artwork is reviewed through a blind or partially blind process by a jury which includes:

● The BAC Curator

● The Gallery Coordinator

● One or more artists or arts professionals

Artwork is evaluated on:

● Presentation Quality

● Artistic Merit

● Uniqueness and fit within the overall gallery mix
