Photography of Place

Robert A. Peck Gallery is accepting applications of artwork in all Photographic print formats( black & white film, digital, alternative and experimental processes) for an exhibition of images shot in Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana Artists can reside anywhere in the world.  We are looking for images that capture the unexpected aspects of our vast state and exude innovation, aesthetic finesse, and thought-provoking narratives.  We are looking for unique and out of the ordinary images. We are not looking for the archetypical images that you see in visitor guides.   No videos, films or AI generated images. There is no fee to apply.  Awards $10,000. 

This exhibition will feature a 3 panel jury of Wyoming artists:

Lonnie Slack, Professor of Photography has been a practicing photojournalist and fine art photographer for over 30 years.  In early 80’s while in high school, he was entrusted by a friend who was leaving for the military, with a Konica F film camera.  Now, his camera collection has grown to an amount he is unwilling to divulge.  He has captured images for Riverton Ranger, Lander Journal and Wind River News newspapers.  He was also a Kodak certified specialist printer.   He has shown his images in numerous exhibitions as well as multitude advertising campaigns around the world and is in many private collections. He teaches a variety of black and white and digital courses for Central Wyoming College for the past 26 years. 

Nita Kehoe, Professor of Art and Gallery Director has been a practicing artist for 35 years.  She creates conceptual artwork focusing on the intersection between humanity and nature.  She has exhibited her artwork internationally and is in numerous collections.  She teaches ceramics, sculpture and art history at Central Wyoming College for the past 24 years.

George Kahrl, is a cattle rancher on North Piney Creek, in Western Wyoming. He saved up and bought his first SLR camera when in fifth grade and has been taking pictures ever since. After graduating from Harvard as a young man in 1983, he headed west. He has trained his own horses, and those for others, to be used on the cattle work on his ranch for the last few decades. He wonders how being outside each day for over 35 years, 140 seasons, has shaped what he sees in life and light. Self taught as a photographer and poet, he is most comfortable in nature with cattle, horses, and his border collies - " in a life of daydreams and living dreams. within the world where silence expresses more than words will know, where feelings flow between my horse and I, footfall creating rhythms of breath and life shared."

About RAP Gallery/CWC

Central Wyoming College is a 4 year college located in Riverton, Wyoming.  Riverton is a picturesque, rural town located next to the Wind River Indian Reservation.  The Robert A. Peck building where the gallery is located, boasts a visitor log of 1500 last year over the exhibition dates.  The RAP Gallery is a 6000 square foot space where a diverse array of artwork is exhibited.  The gallery provides an important educational and cultural space since it is the only large-scale gallery within a 2 hour drive.
