O'Fallon Main Street Roundabout Sculpture Project

The City of O’Fallon, Missouri, seeks a sculpture for the intersection of the City’s Main Street and Third Street that will honor the rich history of the City.

As a sprawling suburban community of nearly 100,000 residents, the City of O’Fallon is now recognized as one of the best places for families, veterans and seniors to make their home. But O’Fallon’s current status is built on a long history that dates back to the 1800s, and Main Street is the heart of O’Fallon’s history. As is the case with Main Streets around the country, what is now a 4-5 lane thoroughfare started as a dirt road through what was then a rural community and stop along the railroad tracks that split what is now O’Fallon’s Rail District (downtown) and are only a block from the sculpture’s location.

The intersection of Main Street and Third Street is really the heart of the City’s history. The Sisters of the Most Precious Blood literally helped build the infrastructure and educational heart of the City, and the beautiful brick convent and chapel that became their home is the focal point of that intersection. The complex, which has served as their Mother house has hosted an all-girls college and high school over the years. Today, it’s home to both a senior living facility and the O’Fallon Municipal Centre, O’Fallon’s City Hall, with a three-story rotunda, which is featured in the City’s logo.

The park-like land north of the intersection has served as the Sisters’ quiet refuge with a prayer walk and grotto, drawing both the Sisters and neighbors for a peaceful walk in the heart of downtown. Across the street, stands the beautiful Assumption Parish and School. Started by the Sisters, the parish plays a key role in the City’s history and future, and the nearby homes harken back to the structures of the mid-1900s with O’Fallon’s oldest home has been renovated as a bridal shop and is just a block away.
